The Bryant Hornets are the five-time defending state champs.  To make it six in a row, Bryant will have to win a title without Buck James.  Coach James left Bryant in the off-season.  Quad Sanders takes over as head coach and the Hornets are ready to show the state what they can do.

The biggest news in high school football in the offseason was Buck James leaving Bryant for Conway.  The Wampus Cats won ten games last year but lost to Bryant in the semifinals.  This season Conway is hoping to take the next step with Coach James leading the way.

The Cabot Panthers have lost in the 7A semifinals two out of the last three seasons.  Last year Bentonville beat Cabot 15-13.  It was a painful loss and the Panthers are using that memory to fuel them this season.

The Central Tigers enter the 2023 season on a 21 game losing streak.  They haven’t won a game since beating Fayetteville in the 2020 playoffs.  This season the Tigers have a new head coach, a new offense, a new defense, and a new attitude.

The Catholic Rockets had a magical season in 2022.  They went 11-1 and won the 6A East.  This season the Rockets return a lot of starters on both sides of the ball and are hoping 2023 leads to more great memories.

The Watson Chapel Wildcats are ready for year two under head coach Maurice Moody.  The 2022 season got off to a great start for Watson Chapel.  They beat Arkansas High School, but Watson Chapel ended the season with nine straight losses.  Coach Moody believes another year of his system will bring better things for the Wildcats.

The Morrilton Devil Dogs returned to the playoffs in 2022 after a one-year absence.  The Devil Dogs are hoping to build off that season with a deep runner in 20223. Morrilton begins the season on the road against Russellville.

The Maumelle Hornets are hoping year two under head coach Brian Maupin ends better than year one.  Maumelle won its first two games in 2022 but the Hornets lost seven of their final eight games. Maumelle’s motto for 2023 is “Make History”.

The Vilonia Eagles are getting ready for year two in the 5A Central.  Last season the Eagles went 5-3 in conference play to finish in third place.  This season the Eagles have more experience and feel like year two in the conference will bring better results.
