Fayetteville's McDonald Week 7 Player of the Week
October 18, 2007
“We were really attacking them vertically and attacking the safeties,” Fayetteville head coach Daryl Patton said. “He did a good job of reading the defenses.”
McDonald’s second-quarter performance helped guide the Bulldogs back from 13-3 and 20-10 deficits.
McDonald didn’t start out so well, however. On Fayetteville’s first drive, McDonald threw two incomplete passes and an interception.
“From that point on, he really threw the football well,” Patton said. “He had a great night.”
McDonald finished with 24 completions in 41 attempts for 422 yards and four touchdowns. His performance bumped him to 2,203 yards and 20 touchdown passes for the season.
“He does a good job of finding the open windows and uncovered receivers,” Patton said. “We have to keep doing that.”
McDonald has benefited this season from a stable of capable receivers like Gionni Harris, Kellen Summers, Adam Stowe, Michael Bowman, Weston Harbaugh and Coy Holmes.
“We have six receivers with double-digit receptions this year,” Patton said. “All of them run in the 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6 range. They know that it may be their night or somebody else’s. Everybody plays us differently.”
Fayetteville is tied atop the 7A-West standings with Har-Ber, Bentonville and Fort Smith Northside. McDonald will lead the Bulldogs into a crucial contest on Friday against Bentonville.
